چکیده

We propose a model for providing integrated and uniied access to multiple information sources. Each source comprises: (a) an ontology i.e. a set of terms structured by a subsumption relation, and (b) a database that stores descriptions of objects using terms of the ontol-ogy. We assume that diierent sources may use diierent ontologies, i.e., diierent terminologies with terms that correspond to diierent natural languages or to diierent levels of granularity. Information integration is obtained through a mediator comprising two parts: (a) an ontology, and (b) a set of articulations to the sources, where an articulation to a source is a set of relationships between terms of the mediator and terms of that source. Information requests (queries) are addressed to the mediator whose task is to analyze each query into sub-queries, send them to the appropriate sources, then combine the results to answer the original query. We study the querying and answering process in this model and we focus on query translation between the mediator and the sources.

Mediators over Ontology-Based Information Sources

We propose a model for providing integrated and unified access to multiple information sources. Each information source comprises two parts: (a) an ontology i.e. a set of terms structured by a subsumption relation, and (b) a database that stores objects under the terms of the ontology. We assume that the objects of interest belong to an underlying domain that is common to all sources (e.g. a se...

Developing a BIM-based Spatial Ontology for Semantic Querying of 3D Property Information

With the growing dominance of complex and multi-level urban structures, current cadastral systems, which are often developed based on 2D representations, are not capable of providing unambiguous spatial information about urban properties. Therefore, the concept of 3D cadastre is proposed to support 3D digital representation of land and properties and facilitate the communication of legal owners...

Query Translation for Ontology-extended Data Sources

The problem of translating a query specified in a user data content ontology into queries that can be answered by the individual data sources is an important challenge in data integration in e-science applications. We develop the notions of semantics-preserving query translation and maximally informative query translation in such a setting. We describe an algorithm for maximally informative que...

Research on Web Query Translation based on Ontology

This paper presents a framework of query translation based on ontology between different query interfaces (forms), which will translate the queries into suitable formats, hiding the differences from underlying sources, and enabling users to access data sources conveniently. Firstly, constructing domain ontology concept model (DOCM), then, finding out predicate matching relationships between sou...
